Sun-dried orange peel, milled fine. One of the oldest brightening ingredients in Indian households, and one of the few that is genuinely mildly exfoliating as well as rich in vitamin C.
What It Is For
- Dullness — the main use. Skin looks brighter after, mostly from the gentle exfoliation.
- Tan — over weeks of regular use, not in one session.
- Oily skin and blackheads — orange peel is mildly astringent.
- Uneven tone — gradually, alongside a toner and sunscreen.
How to Use It
- One tablespoon in a non-metal bowl.
- Add curd for dry skin, rose water for oily, to a smooth paste.
- Apply to a clean face, avoiding the eyes.
- Fifteen minutes. Remove while still slightly tacky.
- Rinse warm with light circular pressure — this is where the exfoliation happens.
- Mist a toner and apply a gel while damp.
Twice a week, not more. It is an exfoliant as well as a brightener, and over-exfoliated skin gets duller, not brighter.
Mixing ideas
With multani mitti for oily skin. With kaolin and a spoon of curd for dry. With rose petal powder to soften it.
One Real Caution
Citrus on skin followed by strong sun can cause sensitivity in some people. Use it in the evening, and wear sunscreen the next day — which you should be doing anyway if you are chasing tan or pigmentation.
