Steam distilled rose water — the hydrosol that comes off the still when rose petals are distilled, and nothing else. No added water, no glycerin, no preservative, no fragrance.

That distinction matters more here than with almost any other product, because most of what is sold as rose water in India is water with rose fragrance in it.

Steam Distilled or "Rose Water"?

Steam distilled (this) Blended
Made by Distilling rose petals Water plus rose fragrance
Smell Soft, slightly green, fades fast Strong, sweet, lingers
Does Hydrates, tones, calms Smells nice
Price Higher — it takes a lot of petals Low

The giveaway is the smell. Real rose water is subtle and disappears within minutes. If it smells like rose perfume an hour later, it is perfume.

What It Is Used For

As a face toner

The most common use. After cleansing, before oil or moisturiser — it brings the skin's pH back down and leaves it damp, which is when the next layer actually absorbs.

Mixing face packs

Use it instead of plain water with multani mitti, kaolin clay or rose petal powder. Clay packs mixed with rose water are far less drying than the same pack mixed with water.

Setting mist through the day

A light spray over makeup, or mid-afternoon when skin looks tired.

Calming irritated skin

After sun, after shaving, after threading, or on skin that has reacted to something. Rose is one of the few ingredients that is genuinely soothing rather than just mild.

Tired and puffy eyes

Two cotton pads soaked in chilled rose water, ten minutes, eyes closed. The oldest trick in the book and still the best one.

On hair and scalp

A light spray on the scalp between washes, or over dry ends to take the static out.

How to Use It

  1. Cleanse and pat the face almost dry
  2. Spray from about 20cm, or apply with a cotton pad
  3. Do not let it dry on its own — go straight in with your oil or moisturiser while the skin is still damp
  4. Morning and night

Keep it in the fridge in summer. It is not necessary, but a cold mist on a Jaipur afternoon is a different experience to a warm one.

Who It Suits

Every skin type. Rose water is about as universally tolerated as skincare gets — dry skin, oily skin, sensitive, acne-prone, mature. It is the safest thing in the range to start with.

Rose, Saffron or Tulsi Water?

Rose hydrates and calms — the everyday toner. Saffron water is for brightening and dullness. Tulsi water is clarifying, for congested skin. Neem toner is the one for active breakouts.

Rose is the one to own if you own one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the smell so faint?
Because there is no added fragrance. Steam distilled rose water smells soft and fades within minutes — that is how you know what you have.

Does it need refrigerating?
No, but it keeps better and feels better cold. Store it out of direct sunlight either way.

Can I use it on acne-prone skin?
Yes. It will not clog anything. For active breakouts, Neem Toner does more.

Can I drink it?
This is a cosmetic-grade hydrosol, intended for skin and hair.

How long does it keep?
There are no preservatives in it, so use it within a few months of opening and keep the nozzle clean. Refrigerating it helps.

Can I use it instead of water in my hair mask?
Yes, and it is a good upgrade — less drying than water and it takes the earthy smell off herbal powders.
