Cotton buds with wooden stems instead of plastic ones. A hundred in a jar, double tipped, made in India.
Why the Stem Matters
A plastic cotton bud is used for ten seconds and then lasts for centuries. They are one of the most commonly found items on beaches anywhere in the world, and they are among the easiest things in a bathroom to replace with something that breaks down.
Wooden stems compost. The cotton is cotton. Nothing about how you use them changes.
What They Are For
Precise skincare application
The main reason to keep them on a dressing table. A bud takes diluted tea tree oil onto a single spot without spreading it across the whole face, and it keeps your fingers out of a jar of aloe vera gel.
Cleaning up makeup
Fixing a smudged liner or a wobbly line is what they are best at.
Applying oils to small areas
Cuticles, lash line, a dry patch, behind the ears.
General household use
Cleaning jewellery, keyboards, camera lenses, phone ports, and the inside corners of anything.
A Note on Ears
Cotton buds are not meant to go inside the ear canal. They push wax further in rather than taking it out, and the canal cleans itself. Outer ear only.
Disposing of Them
The stem and the cotton are both compostable, as long as you have not used it with anything you would not put on a compost heap. Otherwise, bin them — still better than plastic.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many in a jar?
100 buds, double tipped.
Will the wooden stem splinter?
No. The stems are sanded and the cotton is wound firmly onto both ends.
Are they as soft as plastic ones?
The cotton tips are the same. Only the stem is different — and a wooden stem is stiffer, which actually helps with precision work.
Are they biodegradable?
The stem and the cotton both are. The jar is reusable.
