A neem wood comb, cured in a blend of coconut, bhringraj, neem and castor oil before it leaves us. The oil goes into the grain rather than onto your hair — it keeps the wood from drying and splitting, and it is why this comb lasts years rather than months.

Why Wood Rather Than Plastic

No static

Plastic dragged through dry hair builds a charge, and charged strands repel each other. That is the frizz you see and the flyaway you keep flattening with your palm. Wood does not build the same charge.

No seam to catch

A moulded plastic comb has a seam down each tooth where the two halves of the mould met, and on a cheap comb that seam is sharp. It catches the cuticle on every pass, hundreds of times a day. A wooden comb is cut and sanded, so the teeth are rounded because they have to be.

It handles oiled hair

This is where the difference is most obvious. Oiled hair is softer, heavier and tangles more easily, and plastic snags and pulls through it. If you oil twice a week, the comb matters more than you think.

On a Flaking Scalp

Scratching a flaking scalp breaks the skin and spreads the problem — fingernails are the single most common reason dandruff gets worse before it gets better. A wide-tooth comb lifts and loosens flakes without the damage. That, rather than anything leaching from the wood, is why a neem comb helps.

How to Use It

  • Start at the ends and work upwards in sections. Combing root-down drags every tangle into a knot at the bottom.
  • After oiling, comb root to tip — the one time you go downwards, because the job is carrying oil along the length.
  • Comb before you wash, so shed hair comes out in the comb rather than knotting in the shower.

Looking After It

Wipe it dry after each use. Wash rarely, with mild soap, and dry it immediately — wood should never be left to soak, which is how combs crack. Keep it out of the bathroom; constant humidity is harder on wood than occasional water.
