A wide tooth comb cut from sheesham — Indian rosewood, the wood used for furniture that outlives the people who bought it. It is denser and harder than neem, which you feel the moment you pick it up: more weight in the hand, and a smoother glide through the hair.

Why Sheesham

Sheesham is a close-grained hardwood. Sanded and finished, the teeth come out glass-smooth, and they stay that way — a softer wood will roughen slightly over years of use.

It is also heavier, and weight helps. You do not have to push a sheesham comb through your hair; it carries itself.

What It Is For

Detangling, wet or dry

Wide teeth separate hair instead of forcing through it. Start at the ends, work upwards, and the breakage stops.

Thick, curly and textured hair

Wide spacing is the only spacing that gets through density without pulling.

Spreading hair oil

Comb root to tip after oiling the scalp, so the ends get something too.

Herbal hair packs

Works a herbal paste through every strand before it sets.

Sheesham or Neem?

Sheesham Neem
Wood Dense rosewood Lighter, slightly softer
In the hand Heavier, smoother glide Light, everyday
Longevity Harder, keeps its finish longer Long, with care
Best as The comb you keep for years, or a gift Daily workhorse

Both are a clear improvement on plastic, which has a moulded seam along every tooth that catches the hair cuticle each stroke. See the Neem Wood Detangling Comb for the lighter version.

How to Detangle Properly

  1. Start at the ends, never the roots
  2. Work out the bottom few inches first
  3. Move up and comb down again
  4. Repeat until the comb runs root to tip in one pass
  5. On wet hair, do it with conditioner still in

Looking After It

  • Keep it away from prolonged moisture; wipe it with a dry cloth after use
  • Never soak it — water swells wood and cracks it
  • Rub a light layer of coconut or almond oil into the wood occasionally to keep the finish
  • Store somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sunlight

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it worth the extra over neem?
For the glide and the longevity, yes. For pure function, neem does the same job for less.

Can I use it on wet hair?
Yes, and dry it afterwards.

Does it hold static?
No. No wooden comb does, which is why fine hair behaves better with one.
