Rosemary is the one herb almost everybody has heard of for hair. What nobody explains is that it comes in two completely different strengths, and that using the wrong one is why most people get nothing out of it.

One Plant. Two Strengths.

Rosemary Water

What comes off the still alongside the oil — the water phase, carrying the light aromatic fraction of the plant and almost none of its concentration. That weakness is the entire point. It is mild enough to go on the scalp every single morning, it does not need rinsing, and it leaves no oil behind, so it fits into a normal day before work.

Daily contact is what does the work here. One strong treatment a week does less than seven gentle ones.

Rosemary Essential Oil

The same plant, concentrated many times over. This is the form the research is usually done on, and it is also the form people misuse — applied neat it will sting, and on a sensitive scalp it can cause the irritation it was meant to fix.

Four to six drops in 10ml of any carrier oil, once a week. That is the whole instruction. A 10ml bottle at that rate lasts several months.

Neem Wood Comb

Two jobs. It spreads the morning water evenly across a dry scalp instead of leaving it on one patch, and on oiling day it carries the blend from root to tip. Neem wood produces no static, so it does not roughen the hair the way plastic does.

How to Use

Every morning

1. Spray the water onto the scalp itself, not the lengths.
2. Rub it in for a few seconds. Leave it. No rinsing.

Once a week

1. Four to six drops of the essential oil into 10ml of a carrier oil.
2. Massage into the scalp, comb through, leave an hour or longer.
3. Wash out as usual.

Coconut, olive or almond all work as the carrier. Our virgin coconut oil is the usual choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the essential oil every day instead?
No. Daily use of an undiluted-strength oil is how scalps get irritated. The water is the daily one — that is why both are in the box.

Does the water need refrigerating?
Not necessary, but it is more pleasant cold and it will keep longer in the fridge in a Jaipur summer.

Will my hair smell of rosemary all day?
Faintly, for an hour or so after spraying. The water is much lighter than the oil.

How long before I see anything?
Eight to twelve weeks, and the first sign is usually less hair on the wash-day drain rather than new growth.
